Montafon

Montafon is rich in popular traditions and folklore. In the small village communities there is a flourishing club life (brass bands, acting, local culture, fire brigade, etc.).
Very special is the tradition of “Funkenbrennen” – analogous to the
easter fires in other countries – that occurs at the beginning of Lent.
“Rätschna”, rattler, is another specific tradition, at which young people on the Friday and Saturday before Eastern rattle at the houses in the village.

At these days, a ccording to legend, the church bells are escaped to Rome. The rattling intends to replace the church bells.
In archaeological terms the village of Bartholomäberg is very interesting. Remains of a settlement are excavated, whose age is estimated at 3.700 years.
In summer excursions are organized to these archaeological sites.
The church of the village of Bartholomäberg is a unique example of art history from the Baroque era.

A beautiful tradition is the “Almabtrieb”, when the farmers’ cattle is brought down into the valley from the alpine pastures. Below, a video of that:

Vorarlberg

Among other things, Bregenz – capital town of Vorarlberg – is well known for the Summer Festival, which takes place each year in July and August.
Remarkably, some of the events are performed on the “Seebühne”, a stage, build in the water of Lake Constance.

Because of the dimensions and the applied techniques each decor is a phenomenon in itself.

The “Tosca” setting is also used for shooting the James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace”.
In the city of Dornbirn, there are two interesting museums for young and old: the Rolls-Royce Museum and Inatura, where nature and technique are presented in an exciting, interactive way.
The city of Feldkirch has a beautiful historic center.
The Schattenburg castle near the center of Feldkirch hosts a cultural history museum.
