There are many ways for active leisure in the mountains. One of these is rock climbing, an advanced and challenging mountaineering sport, that still wins peoples interest.
Indoor climbing in a climbing gym is weather protected and can be done every time of the year. In our region a climbing gym is found in the village of Gargellen.
Of couse there are in our neighbourhood lots of possibilities for outdoor rock climbing. One of those are the special climbing parks, “Klettergarten” in German. These are rock faces, up to a height of 120 feet, equiped with steel hanging rings bolted in the rock to assure save climbing, using a rope. |

| Another attractive possibility are the “Klettersteige” (“Via Ferrata” in Italian). These are long stretches of exposed rocky mountain face to be crossed safely by the use of fixed steel wires, ladders and straight or bended iron bars. Without these aids the crossing of a Klettersteig would be very difficult and therefore time consuming and dangerous. |
